Valentine's Pink Picks

I'm not a pink person. Some people are always attracted to it - it's a color I usually shy away from, only going for the occasional magenta item. Even when I had twin girls, we hardly had anything that was pink.

But pink is intimately connected with Valentine's Day, so I decided to suck it up and pull together a few pink-ish items for your perusal:

Happy New Year - Gong Hey Fat Choy!

Wishing everyone a prosperous, healthy and happy new year.

For some reason, I've always loved Chinese New Year. To me it's a more ritualistic version of our New Year, without the resolutions and the crazy partying. It seems more optimistic in some way. But then again, I like celebrating Bastille Day as well, so maybe I'm just a little nutty.

Hope the Year of the Rabbit is good to you.

Happy New Year

Tonight we rounded out 2010 by putting together an appetizer dinner: we had rosemary and shallot crispy potatoes, crepes, prosciutto-wrapped greens, homemade salsa and fresh tortilla chips. It was a fun and silly way to end a silly year.

This year has been pretty good for all of us: I expanded my gallery locations by 4 places, including Barcelona, Spain. I revamped my website and blog. I continued to work my day job in custom residential architectural design.

My husband switched jobs, shifting from designing movie posters to working in high-end motion graphics.

My girls continue to grow by leaps and bounds, one completing her first year of level 6 gymnastics, and the other making the 14-1s team at her volleyball club. Next year will see them moving into high school for the final stretch before heading off to college.

I am looking forward to next year, hoping to expand my consignment/wholesale business, and trying to keep everything on an even keel.

Best wishes to you all for the New Year - Happy 2011!

Merry Christmas

P34

Although my girls are past the Santa thing, we all pretend that we aren't. Cookies and drink were set out last night, and at 13, the girls are just as excited and crazy for Christmas as they have always been, which makes me really pleased.

No-one else has woken here yet, but we have a relaxing day planned with family during the day and a little Doctor Who this evening thanks to BBC America.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Christmas Decor - the battle

I really enjoy decorating for Christmas, although I never seem to have much time for it these days. But I have a problem. My family loves the memories that come along with pulling out all the old ornaments and decorations, while I would really prefer to have home decor that were only silver, green and white (and I do like the pinecones in the picture above.) I don't like the red and green combo, for starters. In fact, I really dislike red. I love a snowy-toned Christmas. My tree is an aluminum one (that needs to be replaced with a taller tree since our living room has a high ceiling,) and green and white ornaments look great perched on its branches.

One year, I solved the problem by decorating two trees - one in the living room that I put together, and one in the family room that held all the sentimental ornaments. But memory-making won out, and now all of the ornaments go on the main tree. I definitely lost that battle. Maybe someday I'll get to do it my way again.
